Bespoke Lowlander, Edinburgh

Our brief was to design and build a bespoke Lowlander Garden Room in a previously unused, shady area of the garden. The client was keen that the design incorporated a shower room, kitchenette, cinema room with automated black out blinds and a large decking area which would wrap around the whole building. Our Garden Room project for this client was part of an extensive garden redesign by Stephen Ogilvie Garden Design.

Challenges

The Garden Room and Millboard decking (76sqm in total!) were built using ground screw foundations. Due to the varying levels of the new landscape design, screws of up to 2m were required. Outdated electrical connections were upgraded, which required careful coordination with SSE and electrical contractors to ensure the job could be completed on time and on budget. JML coordinated the service connections with Stephen Ogilvie to ensure the overall running of the project went smoothly.

Services Delivered

JML’s in-house architectural team prepared all the designs for client approval and handled the Planning and Building Warrant applications. Once permission was granted, our JML Contracts civils team prepared the foundations, drainage and wiring ducts prior to the arrival of the Garden Room team. Services were laid from connections accessed from the main road, which ran up the full length of the garden. The bespoke designed SIPs kit for the JML Garden Room was erected and clad in Western Red Cedar. Aluminium bifold doors were installed with Lutron automated blinds. A bespoke kitchen was designed and fitted by Cameron Interiors. JML coordinated all the necessary trades, including the kitchen designers and fitters to offer a full turnkey solution for our client. Additional storage was built to the rear of the Garden Room, with matching cedar cladding, to store cushions and accessories for the outdoor furniture.

This JML Lowlander design serves as the ideal backdrop to our clients’ stunning newly landscaped garden design, providing them with the ideal oasis to escape to all year round.
